|
|
The network is a simple wired setup, 3 desktops connected to a Netgear router sharing a DSL connection. On one machine, I keep getting this message at random intervals, says the cable is unplugged even though its not. I also keep getting disconnected form the internet at random, though this usually does not coincide with the cable message. I actually tried Safe Mode once (for other reasons), and found that this error message doesn't pop up any more. However, it's back when I restart in Standard Mode. Any thoughts?

The first thing to try would be to renew your IP address. Do this by opening the command prompt (Start / Run / Type "cmd") and entering the following: "ipcponfig /release", and then "ip config /renew". If that resolves your connectivity issue, you're pretty much in the clear, and can ignore (or disable) the "unplugged" message. If it doesn't it might be that the cable actually is the cause, which you can verify by trying another (they're cheap) or testing the same cable on another client.
