Network Cable unplugged' message

Hi guys. I'm currently using an Intel desktop computer that has no network access at all (I'm pretty sure on that, I think). However, each time I restart a little message balloon pops up in the taskbar saying that my "network cable is unplugged". Is there some way of stopping this from happening? Is the computer at some sort of risk because the cable is unplugged?

No, your machine is not at any risk here. This message that you're seeing is there because your motherboard probably has a built-in network card (NIC), and expects it to be attached to some sort of network, which it isn't. You can disable this in the BIOS, but it's probably easier to do it from within the system: Go to the Control Panel, then to "System", then to "System Propeties", "Hardware", and "Device Manager". On the hardware tree you should see your network card marked by a yellow exclamation mark. Right click it and choose "disable".
