Unfortunately, I am still on dial-up connection. I am not satisfied with different soft modem devices like Lucent, Acorp or Motorola. I would like to by some reliable modem device but I am not an expert in this field. Can you give me advice what reliable modem to buy. It is also important that modem is able to work round the clock without any glitches.

It is always better to buy normal hardware modem then this soft modem thingies. They eat up resources and they are not very reliable as you mention earlier. If I were you I would buy external hardware modem from US Robotics. In the past times when I also had dial-up USR v.Everything V92 models proved to be indispensable. They are robust, fast and very reliable and I recommend you them.
