The laptop freezes occasionally, like once every couple of hours, on average. I've ran anti-virus progs, and ended up with nothing; ditto on spyware scans. It's sort of old now, so I don't know if it's a case of aging hardware, or what? Any assistance is appreciated, TIA.

I had one of these Toshibas a short while ago … though my problems weren't like what you describe, I heard while searching for answers that it was one of the more problematic models. In your case, I would put my money on overheating, resulting from dust accumulation, but that's just guessing, really. Check out csd.toshiba.com, specifically the report section, you may find some useful advice there.
