Hello, I have a PC for some time, and didn’t use internet since recently. Now I am about to, antivirus is what I already have but what else is necessary to be safe? I’d appreciate some advice on this issue, since I know internet is a kind of dangerous place where one can pick all sorts of bad things.

Well, first, I don’t know what kind of antivirus you have, but it better be good one. You really can pick all kind of junk stuff, so be careful. Elementary protection includes firewall, and some spyware/adware protection. I use Zone Labs firewall, this one is freeware (easy to set, which will be important to you in the beginning), but consider some other solutions it’s plenty of it and many are freeware. About this second stuff, AdAware by Lavasoft is the most one in use, I think. I use Spybot (also freeware). There is a bunch of programs for this purpose, some people use more of it, just in case. An important thing; keep real-time, or resident protection (whatever called) of antivirus program always on. I wish you nice surfing.
