Is there a way to retrieve the product key somehow from the Windows 89 SE install CD? I know what you're thinking right now, and it's wrong – it's my CD, bought and paid for legally, I just lost the damn key, and I need it to update some installation components. I know there are utilities that can do this for me, but I can't find any freeware ones… I was hoping you could point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I don't know of a way to retrieve the key from the CD itself, but if you have the installation on the HD right now, it should be fairly easy to find it by browsing through the registry. It should be somewhere under \software \Microsoft \Current Version, or something to that account. As for key-extracting utilities, you could check out the Magical Jellybean Keyfinder. It was freeware the last time I checked.
