Hello.
I've got an external USB 3.0 drive that works perfectly OK with my desktop and laptop, both of which are running Win XP. However, when I try attaching it onto an older machine, one with Win 98 installed, it doesn't get detected no matter what I do. I'm assuming formatting is the problem – the USB drive was in NTFS when I got it, and I suppose I could format it to FAT32, but … could that cause detection issues on the two XP platforms? Is there some way to have it working on all three? |

| While it's true that Windows 98 will not see an NTFS drive, Windows XP will detect and otherwise work with a FAT32 drive. However, if it's a large drive and you want it partitioned, you won't be able to create a partition larger than 32GB while it is FAT32-formatted. Your best bet would be to split it into 2 partitions, and then format each differently. |
