| Lately I've been having some problems with my DSL connection - namely, losing IP over and over again. At first I thought it might be the router/modem, but since the other computers in the house are OK, I'm guessing it must be my NIC, right? Which brings me to the question: Is it possible for an onboard NIC to be damaged during an electrical storm? Without any damage to the router/modem, I mean? We've had some stormy weather recently and I didn't turn off the PC as advised... |

First of all, there is no clear indication that you've actually got a hardware problem. It could be any number of things that cause the problems you describe, most of which could be regulated on some config page or another.
Re. your question about NIC damaged in a storm, I guess anything is possible, but yes, I would also find it unlikely that nothing else has been affected. And that the card would be working at all, BTW.
