It just sits there – actually the fans start fanning, but irregularly I think. Nothing is shown on the screen, nothing going on with the Hard Disk, no sing of life at all. BUT, and this is a good one, I've found that if I press hard on the part where the volume controls are, it does boot! Is that weird, or what? However, it freezes soon after I stop applying pressure. I opened it, checked that section, and found nothing out of the ordinary. I'm this close to giving up on this machine. Any thoughts on what else I could try?

Well, what have you tried at this point, other than pressing it hard? Did you check the CMOS? How about removed the heat sink, cleaned it a little, and applied new coating? (Overheating is as frequent with these babies as anything.) Still, since it does sound like a more mechanical problem than most, I would advise opening it again, taking apart everything – MoBo, CPU, all cards, everything – checking if all connections are OK, and then putting it back together with the bare hardware minimum. Just to see if it'll work like that.
