Whenever I start the browser, I get a message about missing a file called xpcom_core.dll. This is a relatively new development, and I think it all started after I had a hardware-related system crash. Since then, I can't get Mozilla to launch without this. I searched for the file locally, and couldn't find it. Suggestions, anyone?

I doubt this could've been caused by a crash. What extensions/plugins do you have installed? Try removing some or all of them, particularly the ones that have been recently installed. You didn't mention what version of Mozilla you're using, but if it's not the latest, updating might help. (And even if it is the latest, doing a fresh re-install is also an option.)
