| OK, so I might be a little late to catch up, but that doesn't mean I don’t need verification on this. Is it true that Vista won't work with systems that have old monitors? ("Old" as in "not brand new", that is.) Has there been official confirmation of this rumor anywhere? Is it possible that this is being done on purpose, to buff up hardware sales? |

In a word, yes. In a few more (choice) words, "hello and welcome to last week". Make that last year, or the year before last. Official "confirmation" can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/stream/output_protect.mspx
The good news (well, sort of) is that by the time Vista does come out, which appears to be somewhere around, say, year 2064, you're likely to have a new monitor already, and one that does support High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection |
