| I have just bought a new Maxtor HDD. Since I need a lot of storage space for all my music and movies, I chose 120GB in order to be able to store all the media I have. But when I tried to format HDD, I’ve noticed that there is less than 120GB available, I don’t know how much exactly, but I think about a few GBs less. Can you tell me eh this is so? Is there something wrong with my HDD? |

| No, everything is perfectly ok with your HDD. Each HDD has for some reason less storage space than it is said in the specifications. I know that HDD of 80GB has actually approximately 76GB of storage space that can be used. Ad I know that all people usually think that there is something wrong with their HDD and that a couple of GB is missing because it is corruptor damaged. I think that manufacturers maybe should write this fact as a note so that people would not get confused about that. Anyway, your HDD is just fine and you can proceed on formatting it. A couple of GBs more or less is not that big a deal. |
