I have just bought a new Maxtor HDD. Since I need a lot of storage space for all my music and movies, I chose 120GB in order to be able to store all the media I have. But when I tried to format HDD, I’ve noticed that there is less than 120GB available, I don’t know how much exactly, but I think about a few GBs less. Can you tell me eh this is so? Is there something wrong with my HDD?

No, everything is perfectly ok with your HDD. Each HDD has for some reason less storage space than it is said in the specifications. I know that HDD of 80GB has actually approximately 76GB of storage space that can be used. Ad I know that all people usually think that there is something wrong with their HDD and that a couple of GB is missing because it is corruptor damaged. I think that manufacturers maybe should write this fact as a note so that people would not get confused about that. Anyway, your HDD is just fine and you can proceed on formatting it. A couple of GBs more or less is not that big a deal.
