Maxtor 200GB external HDD question

Hello! I have bought Maxtor 200 GB external hard drive. I am a little bit confused, because my friend told me that I can format it. I know that external hard drive has not operating system, so, I cannot figure out how I can format it. I kindly ask you to explain me this. Thank you very much!

Hello! You can format external hard drive on same way as you format your usb flash memory or floppy diskette. Just right click on your external hard drive in My computer and then choose format option. After that all your data on that drive will be formatted.
