I am preparing to reinstall Mac OSX (dont ask me why) and I would like to backup all my settings and then restore them. You know how tedious can be configuring a new installation to suit your needs. Is there any way to accomplish this? I dont care if I need to buy third party software if its necessary. That will be money well spent.
No, you dont need to buy anything. Procedure for backing up and restoring your system is already integrated in Mac OS X and is straightforward and easy. Open Disk utility application (it is located in Applications folder under Utilities). First make image of your hard drive and save it somewhere (on other partition, burn it on DVD or whatever suits you). This will create clone of your system which can be later used to restore everything. All you have to do is to choose Restore function. Just one hint. Restoring image will destroy all data on destination disk, so use it carefully.
