MSOffice software very slow when opening or saving to a mapp

Here's the problem that I have with my Office 2003 at my work. This doesn't happen every time but it does happen often enough to annoy me. When I'm trying to open or save a document to a mapped networked drive the office application stops responding for a couple of minutes and then I need a couple of minutes to change a folder too. It's the same with all the office applications I'm using – sometimes it's all alright and sometimes I'm having these troubles all day. Any suggestions?

Well, I don't think I have a real solution, but here's how I've been avoiding the same problem: I always copy the file from the server to my PC and then do what I have to do. Then I save the changes and send the file back to server. The problem you described is probably caused by the network traffic so this should help you. Btw all the pcs at my office were recently upgraded but that didn't solve this problem. So I'm still doing what I've just described.
