I am a kind of administering a system and know how delicate issue, what you’re talking about, is? Let’s say you really did forget it. I don’t understand, from the question is it a home PC, workstation or server but anyway this can be done with some effort. One possible solution would be to run ASR (Automated System Recovery), if you have made a backup using this utility and you remember the password or there was no password at that time. If you never made ASR backup, never mind about this. Other ways are not legal ways of dealing with a system, but if it is the only way, you will need someone who knows how to do this. You can make alternative installation on a different partition and use some techniques to recover or reset password or do this by booting from CD. Making another installation over existing one will cause too much loss of data in most cases. I can give no advice about these alternative techniques and tools, but one can easy find via Google, whatever one needs.
