Hello. I am looking for a new firmware for my Sony CD Rom drive. It has just stopped working. It is there, present in the windows explorer, but wont read any disc. I dont know how this happened, but it happened. I have doubts about fixing it with the new firmware, but I am willing to try, because I think that there isnt going to be any cost if something goes wrong. Is there some special skill required to perform firmware upgrade? Thanks in advance.

Why dont you try cleaning it instead of trying to change the firmware? It maybe doesnt pay off to clean a CD-Rom, because of very low prices for brand new drives, but it will help for sure. But if you are curious for the operation it self, how does it goes, than there is logic for doing this. Maybe it will be difficult for you to find the proper link with your firmware, but there is no other way than to search over the internet. After you did that, find the right app for DOS and create bootable floppy drive with, and copy your firmware on it. Before you do the while procedure, remember that there is no room for any mistake. Good luck.
