I've got my first router setup the other day, but I'm not all that pleased with how that's working out. My DSL connection is much more unstable than when I'm connected directly (skipping the router). When I tried downloading the updated firmware, I got an obscure message, saying "incorrect image file". What does that mean, anyway? What's next on my list of things to try? Oh, the router model is WRT54GS Wireless-G, in case it matters. Thanks in advance for any help!

Linksys is famous for their buggy firmware update protocols, but I'm afraid I can't help you with that. Now, when you say the connection is less stable, what do you mean by that? Substantial speed drops, or all-out disconnects? In either case, make sure the integrated firewall (which I assume your router has) isn't interfering with the software firewalls you have on your networked machines.
