Linking two PCs with ethernet

I have two computers at home and I would like to connect it so I can play some LAN games. Both computers have network cards installed and are running Windows XP Professional with all the latest updates. Also, one computer is connected to cable modem and I would like to enable another computer to connect to internet also. Can you explain me how to accomplish this?

You will have to buy a router. This is easier and a lot better option. Second option is to buy additional network card for computer that is connected to cable modem. You will connect second computer to this network card. On the first computer you have to configure internet connection sharing so second one will be able to access internet through first computer.
