I have a Lexmark x1290 printer. I have windows and Ubuntu operating systems. My printer works ok in windows, but I want him installed at linux, too. I have just one problem: I dont know how to install it there. I kindly ask you to tell me some basic steps for this installation.

Lexmark is not friendly to linux. This installation wont be easy. Your printer uses Z600 series driver, so you have to download it. After you have downloaded it, make new folder and unzip it in it. Extract and untar driver from the install script, then convert and install rpm (which you have extracted it), run idconfig, then restart cups. After you done this, go to system, then administration, then printing and, at the end, new printer dialog, choose printer and click on install driver button. After that you go to /usr/share/cups/model and find appropriate driver for your printer, then install it. Print test page, if you get it, everything is fine.
