I'm using an external USB keyboard for my Gateway laptop because I find the little keyboard generally too cramped. Still, I can't carry it around with me all the time, so when I unplug it I need to rely on the default keyboard. However, it tends to behave erratically at times: When I press "Z", it sometimes types "7" instead. When I press "L", it types "J". Not all the time, but just often enough to make using it a living nightmare. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? TIA.

It looks like the key mapping that should be refreshed when you remove the USB keyboard – isn't. I suspect the problem goes away when you restart, right? If this is the case, it's probably the mapping thing. Maybe updating your drivers to the latest version would help?
