My Toshiba A100 laptop died and some very important data are captured on its hard drive. I need this data so I disassembled laptop and took hard drive out with idea to connect it to desktop computer and retrieve data. But it seems that laptop and desktop hard drives are not compatible. Is there any way I can connect laptop HD to desktop?

Laptop and desktop hard drives have different connectors. Laptop hard drive has 44 pins and desktop hard drive has 40 pins so they can not be simply switched between laptop and desktop. To connect laptop HD to desktop you will need HD adapter. HD adapter is simple and inexpensive device. Just plug in 44 pin connector to laptop hard drive and 40 pin connector to IDE cable and power up desktop computer.
