I have a laptop for last few years. However, since yesterday my laptop reports problem with HD. I think that my laptop HD is damaged and I do not want to lose my data and partition. A friend told me that I should use program called Norton ghost for data backuping. He told me that software allows users to copy complete content and directory structure between hard drives. Is that right?

I think that now it is too late for data backups. However, I don't know which program you should use but I will certainly think again about using a Norton ghost if I were you. That program could easily scramble your data so bad that you may loose everything on your HDD. At least find somebody that have some bigger experience in working with Norton ghost and ask him to explain you how to properly and safely use it. Norton ghost may help you in moving complete content of HDD to another. However, I do not think you should copy complete content of your drive from one drive to another like that. You would never be sure would it work fine enough lately. I think you should first make the same partitions on your new hard and then copy your data from old one. In your case, I think you should try some other software like Safe recovery.
