Hello. I am about to reinstall my windows XP and I guess I will need to reactivate product again. Is there any way to keep my activation status intact after reinstalling XP? Can any problem arise during reactivation after you reinstall the operating system? If anyone has done this before, I will appreciate a tip on this subject, even if this is not possible.

There is a way to avoid reactivation process when reinstalling. This is how procedure goes. You have to backup two files out of C:\Windows\System32 folder. These are Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak. Copy files, to e.g. floppy disk or whatever. After you reinstall, decline the activation request and restart windows. Don’t go for a normal startup, but press F8 and choose the Safe Mode (SAFEBOOT_OPTION=Minimal) option. Than you use Windows Explorer to go to C:\Windows\System32 folder again. Rename existing Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak files and restore the old ones from your original installation. After this restart the system. This should work. If it doesn’t you can always go back to files you renamed and do the regular activation.
