Hello, all. Here is my problem: I'm experiencing frequent freezes / lockups both in and out of games, programs, and other applications. I've been told that this is due to overheating, and that I need to change the default power settings in Windows to "laptop" instead of "desktop", but that didn't really change anything. The cooling fan is working constantly, I don't think it's broken or anything. Is this really a heat problem, or is this something else completely? Some advice would be great, as I'm pretty much lost. Thanks.

IIRC, there used to be an issue with Compaq not installing the PowerNow! support that's supposed to be default with AMD CPUs, but that was a few years ago. Then again, that Presario of yours is old, isn't it? As far as I can tell today, nothing's changed much – you need to find and download something called PowerNow! (check the AMD site) which will tell the processor that it's running on a desktop so that it adjusts its cooling routine.
