Hello! I think I wasted half of my brain trying to figure out what to do with some files that appeared on my computer. My AV detected the file named svchost.exe with different suffix following this name in more then one place stationed on my PC. At first I was confused because when I checked description of this file with online file data base , it said that is referred to a file that is named and assigned by the Network Connections! My dilemma started should I delete or left it on PC? Is svchost.exe a vital file or a virus? Help!

Hi and oops! Multiplying never the good sign and usually suggests that some virus, worm took your PC in its hands. But not everything is always meant for kicking out from the computer, so never rush with your decision before you gather all fact and get them right. The svchost.exe (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) that is stationed on C:\Windows\System32 is the one that you system need to keep going, because it is integral part of Windows OS. This file you can’t stop nor restart manually. It is there for managing 32-bit DLLs and other services. Others you can “chase” and check on the Security Task Manager, and kick out because they are Trojans, viruses or worms that multiply fast, making copies of itself using svchost.exe as their mask so they could continue messing up things undercover, like trying to connect with the network. Those who like to get attached on svchost.exe as their new host are win32.Hidrag (a.k.a. win32.Jeefo), W32.Assarm@mm, W32.Welchia.Worm.
