I am here asking for some info about the thing called overclocking .Heard about it form a friend in some every day talk and must admit was the first time I ever heard about it. He mentioned that it is some kind of way to make your computer function better faster. Don’t know pros or cons, so I am asking you to feed me with some info on that matter. Thanx!

Hello! Must say you got , in a way, the major point of overclocking, it is term for increasing the speed of any part(component) of the computer beyond the numbers, limits that manufacturer specified. Got the name “clock”, from the “clock crystal” and oscillator which sets a rhythm, that is the source and example which all the higher frequencies are sending to component. To put it simple *MHz processor needed a *MHz clock crystal. Simple overclocking the first ones were changing clock crystal from 8MHz to 12 MHz. The problem started when the computers become more complex, with more add-ins, components, etc, which crystal couldn’t support, too wide range of speed. Motherboards were adopted with several oscillators, and soon some advent adjustable clock generators were made that allowed overclocking without changing the crystal, so the manipulation with device speed is much easy and allowed with progress in BIOS and firmware sector. Overclocking so allow low priced PC to work like high price one , or better model to work better then the best. But there are some risks of that action – possibility of crashing the system and losing the data caused by instability. When you finish the overclocking then you must test your PC put through very hard and tough procedure of testing, and if it passes then you can say that overclocking was successful. Prime 95’s “torture test “is available for free on the Internet and it become the standard one for checking the CPU stability. The components that are usually going through clockworking are processors, memory and graphics. The other bad side of overclocking is possibility of component damages.
Increased Speed can short circuits life, circuits working more quickly higher the temperature that is also bad thing for components, increasing voltage allows for greater signal strength, but also increases circuit deterioration which could cause an early failure. Which every increase that is mentioned here you must make additional cooling improvements. Well any changes on your PC are your choice, and consult some professional before that ,but don’t push the limits of your PC too hard cause it can snap. Techniques are fragile things that lesson I learned so far.
