Basically these are my needs: internet surfing, chat, p2p, word documents, movies, music. I dont need autocad or corel or some serious program. I know that linux programs can replace windows for my needs, but is it easy to install and maintain everything as it is in Windows? I am into buying new computer so thought of maybe saving some extra bucks.

There are lots of distros which are very easy to install and maintain, as easy as in Windows XP or Vista. Particularly, I think the best for your needs is Linuxmint, based on Ubuntu, but with preinstalled audio codecs, video codecs, and some basic multimedia applications. I am sure you would like it.
