Not every link, obviously. It's just some links, in most cases those that lead directly to pdf files. It just freezes for a second, and then it "performs an illegal operation and shuts down". I should note that I can open local pdf files normally, this is just online. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Wait, do you mean you open pdf files on your HD using IE? Or do you mean you open them in Acrobat Reader, like you’re supposed to? Generally (online or offline), you shouldn't be using the browser to open a pdf, even though Adobe plugins enable that (in theory). So, the best course of action is to right-click, choose save as, download the document to HD, and then open it using the Reader.
