Internet Explorer 6 is showing some strange behavior lately. Sometimes it just hangs and I must kill its process to be able to start it again, sometimes it uses 100 processor time, and sometimes it is just painfully slow. Do you know what is causing this behavior and how to fix it?
This behavior usually means that Temporary Internet Files database is corrupt. You will have to delete it and allow Internet Explorer to create another one. Unfortunately, this is not easy as it seems because you can not delete this file in the common way. You have to open command prompt window (Start-Program Files-Accessories-Command Prompt) then close Internet explorer and Windows Explorer processes and enter following command in command prompt : del "systemdrive\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat". This will delete Temporary Internet files database and Internet Explorer should work like new.
