I have 2 desktops hard-wire connected through a DLink I604 Router, which connectes through to a cable modem to the internet. I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 Printer and took advantage of the network connection capability. I connected it (hard-wired) to my DLink Router, and installed the HP-provided software on each of the 2 desktops to automatically work out the port sharing/firewall protocols, and there was no problem. Everything appears to be working fine. I can access the printer from both PCs.
However, now I am seeing a problem I NEVER had before... From time to time (seems to be about 1-2 times per day), my PCs cannot connect to the internet. I'm sure it's related to the network printer, since it has happened daily for the past 4 days.
Other clues:
1. When one PC has internect connect problems, the other PC will still connect to the internet. I have yet to see the problem manifest at the same time on both PCs.
2. I am using IE 6.0 and IE 7.0 (each PC is different) as well as Firefox 2.0, and when the particular PC won't connect, both IE and Firefox on that PC are not able to connect
3. Restarting the PC has helped 100% of the time.
I'm not a deep level tech guy, but am able to perform basic trouble shooting tasks, so I'm hoping there is a low-tech level fix for this problem?
