Hello. I have a question, and potentially a problem – I'm not sure yet. I'm on a new LAN connected through a DI-524 router, and apparently everything is as it should be. However, when I try pinging an external site, I can't seem to do it from a client machine. I can ping the router's IP, but I not any external address. The weird thing is, I can still access web pages as usual. Is this … normal? I mean, shouldn't the fact that I can't ping suggest that I can't connect either? I may be paranoid, but if something's wrong with the network setup, I'd rather find out sooner than later.

What do you get when you try to ping an external IP? If you get an error message of some kind, then you're right, this could be an odd problem, because that would indicate no connectivity. If you're just getting xxx.xxx.xxx, etc., you shouldn't worry. Sometimes the router is set up to mask external IP this way from clients on direct demand, but still provides access normally.
