After fresh installation of Windows XP Professional I have tried to connect to internet using my internal PCI modem. IT dialed number correctly, but then dropped the line. Then I connected external modem but the problem is the same. It just dials the number and then drops connection. Do you have any thoughts about this problem?
You said that you have installed fresh copy of Windows XP Professional and you can not connect to internet so we can rule out viruses. Second thought would be bad phone line. It is highly unlikely that both modems are not working. Try to take computer to some other apartment and see if you can connect to internet from there. If you can, then call phone company to check your phone line. If modems are not working in another apartment then post back so we can try to find some solution.
