I have an intel 850MV motherboard with a p4 1.7ghz. A month ago i decided to open up my pc and clean up the fans and cpu heatsink. I also cleaned out the old thermal grease from the cpu and put in some new stuff. However now when i turn on my pc, nothing happens, it just turns on. I can't boot windows or even get to the bios. I can turn on and off the pc, using the front power button. The power light is on, the fans are working inside. I tried removing my graphics card and network card, but no change. I noticed that the ram was installed incorrectly, i tried the computer without the ram, i got three beeps. I installed the ram the right way, and the same as before, nothing. Is my motherboard, ram, or processor fried?

Hi!

Did you remove thermal grease surplus? It has to be a very thin layer of it on the CPU, spread equally.

If there is too much of thermal grease on CPU and also if it's not spread equally, effect is the same - PC won't work, because grease cannot conduct the heat off the CPU efficiently.

Also, what new stuff you add besides cleaning your CPU?

Yes, I cleaned off all the old grease and put on brand new stuff. However, i didn't add anything to what was already installed: Graphics card, network card, usb, 256mb memory, and so on.
