Hi! A friend brought me his 3000LE 40G external hard drive to copy some music off it. I’m running XP on my machine and it detects that HD but when I try clicking on it I get an error message saying something about some I/O device error. My friend says that he’s never had such problems before. Why does that happen and what does that mean?

Unfortunately that probably means that the hd has gone bad. Maybe you accidentally damaged it while you were plugging it to your pc. I think you should download PowerMax. It’s Maxtor’s tool that scans your hd and can tell you what’s wrong with it. You should be able to find it somewhere on Maxtor’s website. I hope that it will help you.
