OK, so is this thing (Isass.exe) really a virus/trojan/.whatever, or is it legit? I've been getting error messages about it, and I've had some minor performance downfalls, but overall I haven't had much trouble … yet. Web searches provided contradictory answers, some say it's an essential Windows service, some say it's a virus thingie of some kind. I don't know how to handle it; Kaspersky doesn't detect it as a virus. Some clarification, please!

The long and short of it is, LSASS (with an "L") is a Windows program, while IASS (with an "i") is a trojan. Of course, the similarity between lowercase-written names is not accidental. Check which versions the error messages you're seeing are referring to, and work form there. If it's the L one, you might have to reinstall some Windows component or other, but at least your system isn't infected. If it's the I one, update Kaspersky AV's databases and run another scan.
