I haven't been using Internet Explorer since about version 4, choosing to alternate between the Opera and Mozilla browsers instead, so I avoided most of the ActiveX issues that plagued the MS drones. It has been said that ActiveX will disappear by the time of IE7, but now I hear it's still there, and still as annoyingly risky? How come? Where does IE fail in protecting its users now?

| Quite simply, their one key failure was the refusal to do what everyone was suggesting and put an end to ActiveX controls altogether. Instead, they decided to keep them around but have IE7 check for the ones labeled "safe for use", and tell the user to approve it. Since this covers like 10% of the existing ActiveX controls, and since the users are bound to make dumb mistakes, this was very obviously a bad move. |
