Hi everybody! I have Seagate hard drive and a Pioneer DVD burner. My Seagete is SATA so I was thinking if it could cause my system to slow down. When I opened my pc I discovered that SATA is actually less complicated then IDE. Interesting. Now SATA is basically a hard disk technology but my motherboard uses half of its capacity for it. My SATA wasnt recognized by Windows till I installed SATA drivers. Silly, dont you think? I removed my cd rom temporarily and system reported some system error. Any ideas?
I am using Acronis at the moment which is SATA of course, but it acts as if it is IDE. However, when I tried to install SATA drivers it actually slowed down my system. I want to replace my hard drive with Maxtor but I know that I will experience the same problems as you do. So basically there is no escape. The solution is to use your motherboards default settings and to install SATA drivers. It wont make much difference is speed but your system will be actually more stable. Try to fiddle with BIOS settings and see if there is a improvement afterwards. There is a SATA group of options there and you can try with different memory values. These are called buffer in the BIOS. Be sure to save your setting in case something goes wrong. When you reboot you will see the CMOS screen with your buffer values. They should be outlined if you set it up properly. Good Luck!
