I have IBM Think Pad 2883 and boot problems with it. It worked like a charm for a long time but now it is a time for problems. After powering up computer I can not see anything. Screen is completely black. Also, LED indicating that laptop has power is turned on. This looks to me like some serious problem but I would like you to confirm this to me.

Unfortunately, I can confirm that this is some hardware malfunction. If power LED is not light after you press power button then you power supply or battery are dead. If you can not turn it on in both cases (when laptop is connected to power and when it is using battery) then it might indicate some more serious problems then just battery or power supply. In that case, it is likely that more hardware parts, like motherboard or memory, are bad.
