I have (or had) a ThinkPad 600X, and through no fault of my own, it became… dysfunctional. When I try to boot it up, I get only the beeps and a black screen. I don't know what to make of it – I'm aware that the beeps are error messages, but I don't know how to decode them, since there's nothing about that in the manual other than a blank listing (though some pages are missing). It's error 161 & error 163, which means **** all to me. Where could I find the full listing for these? Or, if someone has the right documentation, maybe you could fill me in? TIA.

Sounds like a dead CMOS battery. The error codes mean "dead battery" and "time and date were not set", respectively. The former, of course, would be the cause of the latter. You may have to have the CMOS replaced or repaired. You can find the code index at ibm.com/ support.
