I got an IMB/Lenovo laptop off e-bay recently, and it had a seriously corrupted Win 98 OS installed. I formatted it and attempted to install a new OS, but I can't. The error message I get is: "Cannot create temporary directory. If you have HPFS of NTFS installed on your hard drive, you will need to create a MS_DOS boot partition to set up Windows." What does this mean, and is there some way around it? Thanks in advance.

It means what it says – it can't create the temp directory it needs for installing Windows, so it asks you to create a DOS boot partition first. It's strange that it appears though, because the boot partition should have been automatically created. You formatted from DOS, I presume, using format:/c? It could be some sort of a physical error with the HDD, in which case you'll probably have to replace it.
