OK, let me explain the situation. I got my hands on a 2nd-hand IMB Thinkpad, without the supervisor password. Not wanting to bother with resetting or looking it up with previous owners, I just salvaged it for parts, taking out the HDD to use with another laptop. However, it kept showing up as "not accessible". I thought the drive was FUBAR, but then someone told me that Thinkpads have this hellish little feature that locks the hard disk drive from use of the master password is not entered, even if you take the HDD to another machine! Is that true? Is there some way around this limitation?

Yeah, I heard about that too. It could be the case with you, though I wouldn't exactly recognize the symptoms of a locked drive myself. In any case, your best bet would be to put the HD back in its place (in the IBM laptop) and try to reset all passwords by clearing CMOS. You should be able to find jumpers on the MoBo that do just that.
