I am using Debian Linux and I was wondering if I could set up the server. Can someone please help me with this because I am a beginner? In windows 2000 it was a piece of cake, but man, this is serious. I want to be the only user, but I also want to add few users in a month. My PC configuration is pretty OK. You should consider that I have a printer and that I want to share it later. Please dont get into details, just in few steps if thats possible. Dont get me wrong, but I dont need to learn everything at once. Step by step.

Ok! I will be very simple, but I will also tell you some things in general. Choose different Linux distribution. Debian is good for some things, but for server you must use something else. Divide your hard drive in 2 or 3 partition. Avoid more than that, because thing can get very, very complicated. One partition approach is also bad because its unsafe. If you want to use packages, such as wine, be sure not to install much. Every that is not necessary should be banned. Remember, youre creating a server, not a ultimate game machine. When you set up your distribution, Linux will create default password. Change it, if you dont want hackers problem. Disable all unnecessary stuff like network services, deamons or remote logins. And most of all, install updates once a week. These are only basic steps, because you wanted it like that. For further information feel free to contact me. Bye!
