I need to be able to view some chinese characters (at least I think they're chinese, they may be japanese), but Internet Explorer won't show them, it says I need to install some language support or something. I try downloading it, but it stops and says no available download… Still, I think I can install these offline because I've got my XP disc right here. I just need someone to tell me what to do. So, how about it? Am I on the right track here?

Are you trying to install Chinese fonts or wholesale language support for Windows? I assume it's the latter, in which case you should go to the Control Panel, select the "Regional and Language Options" option, and click the "Advanced" tab. Here you should see a list of all supported (checked) and unsupported (unchecked) languages. Just check the ones you want and insert the CD when it asks you to.
Oh, and BTW, it's Chinese, Japanese, and English, not chinese, japanese, or english. I'll never understand how people who spell decently keep getting this one wrong.

Yesterday when I tried this on the new Chinese teacher's machine, Chinese (or Mandarin or anything related to Chinese) was listed. Since we don't have a CD for Office installation (it's put on by the school district with their enterprise edition), any suggestions on obtaining this? What about all of
the MUI stuff I've read about? The Chinese teacher wants to be able to
create handouts, tests and quizzes in the language, yet retain the ability
to use English with Word. I've searched the Microsoft site w/o finding
either - I must not know how to search, I guess...Thx
