It looks like a reinstall of Windows XP messed up my audio for good. Now I'm getting strange audio distortions in any sound file playback, some sort of clicking or popping noises. A week ago everything was working perfectly. I didn't make any hardware changes in the meantime. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here? Thanks,

If the problem occurred right after you reinstalled XP, it's very likely that a driver malfunction or misidentification is causing this. The first step would be to make sure Windows has identified your sound card correctly: If it's listed in the Device Manager as something other than what you remember, remove it and re-install it, using drivers you download from the web. Even if it's properly identified, update the drivers with the latest version you download off the manufacturer's site.
