Since Windows Xp came out, there is a thing called Simple File Sharing and not familiar if the same thing exists in Vista. Simple File Sharing is enabled and cannot be disabled in Windows XP Home Edition. It basically removes some file sharing restrictions but also make your computer a little less secure.
Check this thing
-Go to My Computer from the Start Menu or Windows XP Desktop. My Computer window will appear.
-Open the Tools menu and choose the "Folder Options..."
-Click on the View tab and find the "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)" checkbox in the list of Advanced Settings.
-Make sure this checkbox is checked.
Then find folders that you want to be shared and follow the procedure
1. Start Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click the down arrow button next to Public Folder Sharing.
3. Do one of those things depending on level of security :
-To allow network users to read files and folders, click Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files.
-If you want to allow users to read, modify, create, or delete files or folders, click Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change and create files.
4. Click Apply.
