I know this is possible, but I don't know what I need to do, exactly. Is it something about port forwarding in my router configuration? I've thumbed through the manual and I don't think there's any mention of setting this up. If you could explain this to me in layman's terms, that'd be great, thanks. BTW my home network is two desktops and one laptop connected wirelessly via a D-Link router and a DSL connection to Verizon.

I'm not sure if this kind of explanation is what you're asking for, but here it is anyway. Your router regulates two kinds of traffic: outbound (form your network to the Internet) and inbound (the opposite direction). It does this by allowing or denying access to or from certain IP addresses and number ranges. By modifying these address filters, you could allow a certain machine or machines to access your LAN, which they by default they shouldn't be able to. Read through the manual (don't just thumb through it) to find how exactly to set this up.
