I have web site which I made in Dreamweaver and I would like to add forum to this web site. I am not overly proficient with these things so I would like to know if I need much knowledge for running forum on my own web site. Thank you in advance for your response.

There are many free forum templates (engines) like PHPbb forum which can be used with minimal configuration. They are well documented and have many users so you can easily find help if you get stuck somewhere. SO, you do not need much knowledge for installing and running forum on you web site. Of course, if forum becomes popular you will have some problems but until then you will learn how to solve them.
