My friend gave me advice to run chckdsk in order to get rid of bad sectors. Hard drive that I am using is very large, it has 320 Gb, and its made by Maxtor. How long it will take chckdsk to examine my drive? Should I just type chckdsk.exe ENTER, or should I use some arguments with it. By the way, what are the arguments? How to type it, whats the format of syntax?

Since you have such a large hard drive it will take 5 to 6 hours, it depends on your other components. Syntax is CHKDSK [drive:] [[path]filename] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/L[:size]]. Here is the explanation?
Use /F to automatically fix errors on disk. With this argument chkdsk will take only two hours. Then, there is /R which scans bad sectors and automatically fixes them. With this option it will take 3 hours. These are only basic arguments. The most important factor in check time is your configuration. With 1 GB of RAM, check disk will examine your whole drive within 2 hours maximum. Buffer memory of the drive also makes difference in check time, but not significantly. The best thing about check disk is that it automatically checks fragmentation. You dont have to use any argument for this. Just run it.
