How do you know when printer needs printhead?

Hello! I have Canon printer. I have purchased it recently. It is new, but I am afraid that I will damage something. My friend told me that one day I will need to change printhead. I want to know how will I know when printer needs printhead? I have never had any printer, so, maybe this is newbie thing for you, but for me is very important. Thank you!

Hello! I do not think that is newbie thing. I think that you need to know and it is good that you asked. There are few symptoms: If your printed document has not colors (and you printed it with color); or quality of printing is not good enough and you got message that is just fine; or you have some lite strokes over printed document - then your printer needs printhead.
